After reading this post by the always interesting Lavender and yolk, I now feel compelled to tell you about the food I hunted down when I was in America.It was pie.
Not savoury pie, it had to be sweet pie
Apple
Blueberry
Pecan
Pumpkin
etc.
Pie just seems so 'small town' America to me,
which is the America I wanted to see.
Both my favourite movie/ book of all time is "Fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe"
Pie is mentioned a lot.
So I went to as many small towns as I could, frighting the locals with my weird "New Zealandness"
They didn't quite know what to make of our accents and my requests for good pie.
I also love this book....a true story of finding pie
Have you seen Waitress with Keri Russell? The movie was average but the pies she made are out of this world!
